Chattanooga is strategically located at the crossroads of three interstate highways and a 2 hour or less drive from Atlanta, Nashville and Knoxville. It is just north of the Georgia border and the 4th largest city in Tennessee with approximately 175,000 people in the city limits.  There are about 375,000 residents when including the adjacent suburbs. The metropolitan statistical, area which includes a few surrounding counties, is estimated to have approximately 525,000 residents.

The Scenic City is Chattanooga’s nickname, and a visit to this area will help you understand the reason. The city is located between the ridge and valley portion of the Appalachian Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau with the Tennessee River dissecting the downtown area. Everywhere you look is dramatic topography and lush, varied vegetation. In fact, the Tennessee watershed supports the greatest variety of flora of any area in the United States. A trip to this area in the fall is typically rewarded with an explosion of color which can be viewed from almost anywhere but is truly remarkable seen from a cruise down the Tennessee River.

Chattanooga has a four-season climate. Winter days are typically mild and snow is a very uncommon event. Summers can be hot and humid with 45 days a year at 90 degrees or over.  Spring and autumn, however, are spectacular, with pleasant temperatures and each season having its own special natural display for all to enjoy.

The attractions and development in these areas along with the other many world class attractions, the natural beauty of the City’s setting, and the welcoming persona of the community have made Chattanooga a major center for tourism. Millions of people visit Chattanooga each year for a variety of reasons.

The Economy of Chattanooga is diversified mix of manufacturing and service industries. The newest large employer to come to town is Volkswagen Group of America, who will be assembling a mid-sized sedan in its new sate of the art, $1 billion plant. They join other major employers in the area including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, Erlanger Health System, Tennessee Valley Authority, McKee Foods Corporation, Memorial Health Care System, Unum and CIGNA HealthCare. The City is also home to 4 colleges, 3 hospital systems, an extensive greenway system and nationally recognized preparatory schools. Chattanooga was ranked 8th out of America’s 100 largest metro areas for the best “Bang for your Buck” city according to Forbes magazine.
