High Blood Pressure


Hypertension or High Blood Pressure usually has no specific cause, other than interactions between environmental and genetic factors. Hypertension can lead to stroke, heart attack and renal failure.

Normal blood pressure should be less than 120 over 80
Mild Hypertension is 140 over 90
Moderate Hypertension is 140 to160 over 90 to 100
Severe High blood pressure is greater than 160 over 100

Risk factors include family history, consuming large quantities of salt, obesity, smoking, vitamin D deficiency and even insulin resistance. Afro-Americans carry four times the risk of developing Hypertension compared to Caucasians.
